Xiaomi has revealed its latest electric vehicle, the YU7, an all-electric SUV designed to compete directly with the Tesla Model Y in China’s highly competitive EV market. Building on the success of its SU7 sedan, Xiaomi’s YU7 is set to officially launch in mid-2025.

The YU7 boasts a dual-motor system delivering 681 horsepower and a top speed of 253 km/h (157 mph). Powered by a lithium-ion battery from CATL, the SUV matches Tesla’s Model Y in dimensions and performance. While pricing details remain undisclosed, it is expected to follow the SU7’s competitive pricing, starting at around 215,900 yuan ($29,720).

Xiaomi’s existing SU7 sedan has been a massive hit, with over 100,000 units produced and monthly deliveries exceeding 20,000 in October. Leveraging the tech-savvy appeal of HyperOS, a custom Android-based operating system, Xiaomi integrates its EVs seamlessly with its other devices, creating a unified digital experience.

Produced in collaboration with BAIC at its Shanghai factory, Xiaomi aims to position the YU7 as a “dream car for the new era,” with ambitions to become a global top-five automaker in the next two decades. Currently focused on the Chinese market, Xiaomi’s expansion plans could soon challenge Western automakers globally.
